Emerson Fittipaldi will assist the stewards at Monza

It has become a tradition this year for former Formula 1 or motorsport legends to lend a helping hand to the FIA track marshals during the races.

Glorious names that have marked the history of Formula 1 helped the FIA this year to make quick decisions during races about the on-track behavior of the 24 competitors this season.

Nigel Mansell, Tom Kristensen, Alan McNish, and Johnny Herbert all fulfilled this role at some point during the season.

For the Italian Grand Prix at the Monza circuit, it is the Brazilian double world champion (1972, 1974) Emerson Fittipaldi who has been called up.

It should be noted that Emerson was already a race steward during the race in Canada last June.

The FIA, however, seems to have some difficulties finding volunteers as it frequently recalls drivers who have already held this role during the season.

Some even refused for various reasons (officially scheduling…) like Alain Prost, who was considered until the last minute to be present in this position at the beginning of the season.

ERRATUM: The FIA announced yesterday that it would be Derek Daly, Irish F1 and Touring Car driver, who would be the driver steward in Italy. Emerson Fittipaldi will therefore not be called upon a second time for the moment.
