Maldonado eager to arrive in Monza
After picking up his first point in Formula 1 in Belgium, Pastor Maldonado is more motivated than ever to achieve similar performances until the end of the season. He is eager to race in Italy, as Monza is a track he particularly enjoys.

During the Belgian Grand Prix, Pastor Maldonado was penalized with a 5-place grid drop, starting from the 21st position. However, the Williams driver made a remarkable comeback during the race, allowing him to finish in 10th place and score the first point of his young Formula 1 career.
Very happy, the Venezuelan hopes to repeat this feat as early as next weekend in Monza. This track is one of those that amazes him the most in this season’s calendar. That’s why he’s eager to race on the Italian Autodrome: « I find that Monza is a magnificent track, and also very fast. It’s undoubtedly one of the fastest of the season ».
Furthermore, he thinks that the FW33 is capable of taking him to the points. « Monza is a low downforce circuit, which therefore requires little aerodynamic balance. As we saw at Spa, our car is comfortable on this type of track. Therefore, we hope to score points this weekend, », he confided.
The Lombard circuit is also very special for the young man, due to his victory in Formula Renault 3.5. It was in 2006.
This year is very difficult for the Williams team, which is perhaps experiencing one of the worst seasons in its history: 5 points collected in 12 races, placing them 9th in the constructors’ standings. But the leaders are determined to rectify the situation! The Grove-based car will have a new aero package in Italy, designed to reduce drag and enhance speed. Engineers have also made changes to the car’s wings to improve its performance on this type of circuit. The two DRS zones and the long straights should allow for many overtakes.
Maldonado is counting on these improvements to find the Top 10 for a second time. We’ll find out this weekend.
