Saturday: Pérez places Sauber in the Top 10
The objective for Sauber was to get ahead of Force India in qualifying. Mission half accomplished. Sergio Pérez succeeded in placing the Sauber in the top 10, from where he will start for the first time in his F1 career.
Sergio Pérez – 10th
I’m very happy. It’s the second time I’ve reached Q3 and the first time I can celebrate it (note: in Monaco, Sergio Pérez was involved in an accident in Q2 and couldn’t take part in Q3 or the race). My best lap in Q2 was really good. I think we did our best today. The team adapted very well to the conditions and the strategy was really good. But all that matters is tomorrow. Our race pace should be good and I hope I can make the most of it and score good points.
Kamui Kobayashi – 13th
« After having difficulties during free practice this morning, it was a bit better in qualifying. It wasn’t a given because we had changed the settings, but the conditions also changed. My last lap in Q2 was fine but I missed Q3. Of course, the goal for tomorrow is to score points. I have the feeling that the lifespan of both types of tires will be short, so the race should be exciting ».

This is the first time in his career that Sergio will be able to start from the Top 10, which is always a special moment. Congratulations to him for this fantastic performance and also to his race engineer. I’m sure saving a set of super soft tires was the best thing to do. Kamui probably hoped for better than thirteenth place, but he is in a very good position to attack tomorrow and fight for points.
