Michael Waltrip files a lawsuit against Williams and Mike Coughlan
The recruitment of Mike Coughlan by Williams seemed like a return to grace for the engineer at the heart of the 2007 Spygate between Ferrari and McLaren. However, it appears he left his former employer, Michael Waltrip Racing, under unsatisfactory conditions for the latter. That is why Michael Waltrip has decided to file a lawsuit against Williams and Mike Coughlan.

Autosport reveals that the Nascar team has decided to file a lawsuit in a North Carolina court to seek damages for premature breach of contract since, at the signing of the contract with the former Ferrari engineer in October 2010, he had committed to stay until November 30, 2012.
« Due to Coughlan’s premature departure, MWR will suffer numerous and substantial damages, including the costs of searching, negotiating, recruiting, and training a replacement for Coughlan, not to mention the expenses incurred by MWR dedicated to Coughlan that will have been wasted, » stated the team.
I take this brief detour to Nascar to showcase what teams can do there regarding satisfaction and interactions with fans. The Michael Waltrip team will, for the first time, offer to watch the New Hampshire race live, for free on its website. The setup allows fans to watch the race live, follow the two team drivers, David Reutimann and Martin Truex Jr., through five different cameras in each car while listening to the radio conversations between the drivers and the pit crew.
« It’s so cool. I love it. It gives the fan at home just as much information as the team director sitting on the roof of the booth. I am proud that we can offer this to the fans. The entire digital era, from Facebook to Twitter and the videos on our website, is something very important to me and the whole team. It’s a great way to bring the team closer to our fans and partners, » commented Michael Waltrip.
This highlights the contrast with what can be done in F1, despite the declarations of intent on the subject from Adam Parr and different team leaders during the last Fan Forum. Let’s hope that the return of F1 to the United States will allow the adoption of a number of practices in favor of the fans…
