Friday: Kobayashi in the wall, Pérez sick, de la Rosa returns
Despite the agreement of FIA doctors and the tests carried out during the week, the young Mexican driver Sergio Pérez has opted not to compete over the weekend after experiencing nausea and headaches. He was replaced by Pedro de la Rosa.

Kamui Kobayashi – 20th and 15th
« We had a busy schedule today. This morning, it was difficult to drive properly because the track was very slippery. I found it challenging to find the right balance of the car with the new tire compounds we tested. Despite that, I tried different levels of downforce and worked on the setup. During the afternoon, the car was better, but I made a mistake on a fast lap with the super softs and hit the wall. It’s obviously my fault. Regarding my new temporary teammate, I know Pedro very well from last year and I will try to support him this weekend. For Sergio, I wish him a good and speedy full recovery. »
Pedro de la Rosa – Did not participate and 18th
« Above all, I hope Sergio gets better quickly. For me, it’s quite unexpected to jump into the car today. We had to do a lot of things so that I could settle into the car, but luckily we managed to do a decent stint. Of course, I will have to get used to the 2011 cars, but the most important thing is that I can be comfortable in the seat and with the pedals. However, I feel ready and I just need a bit of time in the car. »

It’s really a shame that Sergio wasn’t fit enough to drive, but obviously, we thank Pedro who stepped in at the last minute on such short notice. Of course, we know Pedro very well, which helps. The team, the engineers, and the mechanics did an excellent job around the driver’s seat and ensuring the car was ready on time. It was important for Pedro to get a feel for the car before tomorrow. Kamui, on his side, followed a normal program this afternoon until he hit a curb and went too wide on super-soft tires. He wasn’t able to continue. Until then, performance was improving. We still have work to do, but we are eager and hope for a productive day tomorrow.
