Damon Hill will leave the presidency of the BRDC
It is with a sense of duty fulfilled that Damon Hill will leave the presidency of the BRDC, the club bringing together British drivers. During his five years of presidency, he secured the future of Silverstone through a 17-year contract with F1. This allowed him to initiate the necessary investments to maintain the standard of the British circuit.

The position of president of the BRDC is indeed strategic in the country of British motorsports since this club owns the circuit, which thus receives no public subsidies to ensure its operation. It must therefore be able to sign contracts that ensure its economic profitability. Besides F1, the 1996 world champion has secured a contract to host the Moto GP and the Superbike World Championship, making Silverstone host the majority of international events.
It is therefore the satisfaction that transpires in the statement made by the former Williams driver: As a club and business, we can be extremely proud of everything we have done for British motorsports in recent years. The BRDC and Silverstone have a stable and very exciting future. So it’s the right time for me to pass on the reins and to be able to devote more time to my family, my own interests, and the sporting career of our son, Josh. However, I remain a committed member of the BRDC and look forward to seeing the club strengthen in the future.
The future of the association will now certainly pass through the presidency of Dereck Warwick, who has received unanimous support from the board of directors of which he was the chairman. Stuart Roll, chairman of the BRDC, thus declared: « The board is delighted that Derek has put himself forward as a candidate for the presidency of the BRDC to replace Damon. Derek has enormous experience, has kept a sense of reality, and is a very good racing driver. In addition to his on-track successes and his recent work as director of the BRDC, Derek has been heavily involved in managing the BRDC SuperStars and shares Damon’s same passion for supporting young British drivers. »
