Sunday: Kobayashi brings the Sauber into the Top 5
Marked by the terrible accident suffered by Sergio Perez on Saturday, the Swiss team was determined to deliver a strong performance. This is what Kamui Kobayashi achieved by securing an impressive fifth place.

Kamui Kobayashi – 5th
« I am very happy. I struggled in qualifying, but the team did a fantastic job with the pit stop strategy today. The call to change tires came at the perfect moment. It wasn’t a problem for me to go on a long stint with the super softs, and I think they could have lasted longer. After the start, I had issues in traffic, but when they stopped one after the other, it got better for me. After my one and only stop, I was stuck behind Adrian Sutil and had to defend against Mark Webber’s attacks at the same time. In this situation, it was difficult to manage the tires. Without the restart, I probably could have finished fourth. But when Mark got close enough to me in the final laps, there was nothing I could do. Still, I think fifth place is a great result at the end of this difficult weekend ».

Once again, Kamui had a fantastic race, he managed the tires very well, and the car was very good too. He deserved this result for so long. My compliments to Kamui and a big thank you to the entire team who perfectly prepared the car. I now hope that we can start the Montreal GP with our usual pair of drivers.

As always in Monaco, the race was eventful. We chose to implement a one-stop strategy: we started on new soft tires and had a set of new super soft tires for the second stint. Kamui had a very good race. It’s great to bring back the points after a mixed weekend in terms of performance but also with “Checo’s” accident. We dedicate these points to him and hope everything returns to normal in Montreal.
