Adrian Sutil perpetrator of an assault on a Genii executive
It is common for drivers and team members to hit the nightclubs to unwind after the weekend's pressure when the engines stop. The Shanghai race was no exception. However, it seems the party got out of hand, and Adrian Sutil reportedly attacked one of the Genii Capital executives with a broken glass.

It is the commentator Jean-Louis Moncet who clarifies his remarks during the last Turkish Grand Prix: In fact, under the influence of I don’t know what (alcohol?), Sutil injured Eric Lux, one of the owners of Genii Capital, in a nightclub on Sunday night in China. He broke a glass and used it as a dagger against Lux’s neck, who narrowly escaped death, but fortunately, the jugular artery was not affected. Stitches were needed and Lux has also been experiencing hearing problems since.
The incident could have serious consequences for the German driver since the FIA has implemented a code of conduct to prevent a repeat of Lewis Hamilton’s transgression in Australia last year (he performed burnouts in the middle of Melbourne to please fans…). Therefore, there could be a sanction from the federation.
If the Force India driver acknowledges that he was at a nightclub that night, he believes that it has nothing to do with his profession since he was there in a private capacity. « On April 17, 2011, I was at a party after the Chinese Grand Prix. During this party, which I attended in a private capacity, I committed a very unfortunate action in which I unintentionally injured another person. I deeply regret the accident and have apologized. It is a private accident unrelated to Formula 1, and I ask you to understand that I will not say more about this incident,» explains the German driver.
If the FIA were to consider that it needed to sanction the driver, it could benefit another German driver from Force India, Nico Hülkenberg. Indeed, if Adrian Sutil were to be penalized for his gesture in China and banned from one or more races, his compatriot could take the opportunity to step back into the spotlight. We can recall that a certain driver was able to make his F1 debut because Bertrand Gachot had an altercation with a London taxi driver. His name? Michael Schumacher…
Another aspect of the case, his friend Lewis Hamilton testified in his favor. However, the story told by the nightclub’s surveillance cameras does not seem to say the same thing…
