Despite a disappointing qualifying session, the Williams team remains optimistic for tomorrow’s race. The weather forecast predicts rain, which should shake things up. And even if the race takes place on dry ground, the significant wear of the Pirelli tires will force teams to make frequent pit stops. In this case, Williams is betting on a good strategy to score some points.
Rubens Barrichello – 15th:
« We do not seem to have the necessary pace in qualifying. We were stronger in Melbourne, so we need to analyze why and see where we will stand in the race. All things considered, my lap was okay, in fact, it was probably one of my best laps in Malaysia but it was not good enough to counterbalance the car’s performance today. If we have rain or a good stint in the dry, we should be in the points. »
Pastor Maldonado – 18th:
It was a difficult session and we clearly did not expect to be out in Q1. The car was not as good as this morning. I had a bit of traffic, so I didn’t get a clear lap. We have a lot of tires for tomorrow, and the car seems better on long runs than in qualifying. With a good strategy, who knows what can happen. There’s no reason we can’t be in the points.
Sam Michael – Technical Director:
«It is certainly not the session we hoped for, but we fought to get the maximum out of the FW33 today. Tomorrow’s race will be interesting, given that it might rain and the number of stops necessary in dry conditions. Our goal is to score points.»
