Sunday Review: Team Lotus – More Work Before Malaysia

After a difficult start to the weekend, the Team Lotus drivers confirmed in the race the slight progress glimpsed in qualifying, even though Heikki Kovalainen was forced to retire, this time due to his radiator failing.

In any case, with the 15th place for Jarno Trulli, the green and yellow team are preparing to compete in their home Grand Prix with a hint of optimism and the conviction that the potential of the T128 has not yet been fully realized.

Heikki Kovalainen – Retirement

Until my retirement, I was very happy with my performance. I got a good start and then stayed with Alguersuari and Perez until a water leak ended my race. I think it was a bit of a tough weekend for us, maybe tougher than we had anticipated, but we now have time to look into why the pace wasn’t quite what we expected and work on reliability before heading to Malaysia. We are all ready to work hard to ensure we improve, but the team is still young and we will look to progress for our home race.

Jarno Trulli – 15th

« It was really good to finish the race and show that the car can be competitive, despite some issues we had to work through this weekend. We now have a lot of very useful data that we can use to help us move forward in Malaysia and China, and I think once we overcome these early issues [with the car] we will demonstrate that we have made the progress we aimed for this year. »

Tony Fernandes

« I am happy. After an intense day, seeing Jarno finish in a solid 15th place and show a good race pace is very pleasing. We knew we had a potential problem with the radiator on Heikki’s car that would cause him to retire, so it wasn’t a surprise, but the main thing for me today is that the pace we showed in pre-season testing is back. We have been able to stay with the mid-field teams, which is the goal set for this year, so we now know we have a foundation to build on for the upcoming season and a short time to solve this radiator problem before heading home to Malaysia for the next race. With the work ethic and spirit driving our team, I am sure we will make another step forward at Sepang and we are all very excited to return home. »
