While he was present in Pietra Ligure, at Robert Kubica’s bedside, Gérard Lopez revisited the topic on everyone’s lips: the replacement of the Polish driver.

The team owner primarily expressed satisfaction with the positive development in the health of his number 1 driver: «Knowing he is surrounded by doctors who know what they are doing, and that there is great hope for him to regain his former condition, this was the best news of recent days» he stated on the website of the Italian newspaper: IVG.it

For Gérard Lopez, what happened to Robert Kubica is a great loss that forces us to reconsider our sports plans.

«With Robert, since we’ve known him well, we were sure we could do something this year. Without him, we don’t know. If Robert were not to return this season, I think we will need to choose a driver who can win… but we don’t know yet what the situation is.»

The names of Nick Heidfeld, Vitantonio Liuzzi, and Bruno Senna have been suggested to replace the Polish driver: « There are drivers who have had good races, like Nick Heidfeld. We all know that Nick is quite good, but we don’t know his current level; we don’t know how he will perform with our car. The same goes for Vitantonio Liuzzi and for Bruno Senna. »

Lotus Grand Prix should however take advantage of the Jerez tests starting this Thursday to evaluate their different options while waiting to learn more about the chances of Robert Kubica’s return and thus make a definitive choice: «We will evaluate one of the two (Heidfeld or Liuzzi) during the Jerez test. We have a meeting this afternoon to decide which one.»
