McLaren has announced a restructuring of its management team following Richard Lapthorne’s resignation as non-executive chairman of the group. The British company stated on Tuesday that team principal Martin Whitmarsh has been appointed to two new roles. In addition to working as the F1 team leader, Whitmarsh will now be the CEO of the McLaren Group and the vice-chairman of McLaren Automotive.
The company stated that each of the directors of McLaren Group companies will continue to fulfill their roles: « After the change within McLaren Automotive, a subsidiary of McLaren Group, I am pleased to announce this management restructuring, » said Ron Dennis. « Both companies have separate holdings and will continue to be based in Woking, Surrey [UK]. »
« McLaren Group will be based at the current McLaren Technology Centre [MTC], while McLaren Automotive will be based at the brand new McLaren Production Centre [MPC] which is currently under construction alongside the MTC. »
« I have tremendous confidence in the senior management teams of McLaren Group and McLaren Automotive. I am pleased that these two companies are led by such management teams. Now, we must move forward. »
Dennis also paid tribute to Lapthorne, who remained with the team for only one year: « Finally, I would like to pay tribute to Sir Richard Lapthorne for his work over the past year. His knowledge and experience have been very beneficial to the senior management teams of McLaren Group and McLaren Automotive. »
« For this reason, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sir Richard for his wise counsel and wish him good luck for the future, both personally and professionally, » concluded Ron Dennis.
