The USF1 team has promised an innovative approach in designing its first Formula 1 car. According to the team based in Charlotte, testing with the 2010 single-seater is not far off. Having spent almost a year working on the new car, Scott Bennett, one of its chief designers, revealed that the team will not simply be at the back of the pack.
« I am extremely happy with what I was able to do in the car’s setup. I watched it evolve and played a role in almost every step of its evolution, » he writes on the official USF1 team website. « I was responsible for the front and rear suspension. It has been a huge challenge. F1 cars are small and we are tasked with a lot of things for a very tight overall volume. »
« We all do a certain number of things quite differently from what has been done in recent years. I cannot yet give specifics, but we have looked at everything with a new perspective in order to provide different answers, » he continued.
« We will know quite quickly whether they are good or bad answers, but our car will certainly not be a clone. And did you know that we are the only one of the four new teams to design our own gearboxes? »
Bennett is thrilled to have been given the opportunity to work on the first American car just weeks before the start of the season: « In less than a year, we have built something fabulous within smarter and more talented groups with whom I have never had the privilege to work. »
« This team embodies difference a lot, but for me it’s a dream. When the lights go out at the start of our first race, it will be both the end of a long road and the beginning of a new one. »
