Daniel Ricciardo and Brendon Hartley were appointed as reserve drivers for the two Red Bull Formula 1 teams in 2010. Both men are supported and were trained by the Red Bull young driver program. They excelled during the few test days allotted to them in December. The duo will share reserve driver duties throughout the season.
Red Bull announced that Australian Ricciardo, current British F3 champion, and New Zealander Hartley will alternate reserve driver duties race by race.
The drivers will participate in team meetings, spend time with the current race drivers, and familiarize themselves with how Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso work. The aim is for them to be ready for action in case of an issue with Sébastien Buemi or Jaime Alguersuari.
