Tires: Bridgestone will not come, Pirelli remains the sole supplier

The call for tenders for the 2025-2027 period has been closed: the single tire manufacturer was in competition with Bridgestone, but the Japanese will not return.

Since 2011, Pirelli has succeeded Bridgestone in supplying the F1s. The Italian manufacturer had to comply with a set of specifications (which once again showed its limits in Qatar, not to say anything else).

The FIA has once again entrusted Pirelli, whose current contract ran until the end of next year. The story thus resumes for three additional seasons, namely from 2025 to 2027. The supply of F2 and F3 over this period will also be the same.

« We are delighted to extend our partnership in Formula 1 and with its other championships. Pirelli was there when Formula 1 was born in 1950, and with this contract renewal, our brand is approaching almost two decades of presence (…). Innovation and technology are at the core of Pirelli’s DNA, and Formula 1 constitutes the ultimate laboratory. Not only to try and test new technical solutions, but also to accelerate new research, development and production processes in tire manufacturing. » These are the words of the Vice President of the transalpine firm, Marco Tronchetti Provera.

The environment within the lines of the contract

Pirelli will be inseparable from Formula 1 for the next four seasons. And time is ticking, since Formula 1 is seven years away from its carbon neutrality plan, to be achieved by 2030.

Therefore, it will not be a simple supply of tires, but a real partnership in the environmental perspective of the sport. In this case, Pirelli also has its part to contribute, since the tires, too, emit polluting substances.

The question of the viability of sudden degradation erasers is likely to arise sooner or later, in which case Michelin might reconsider its position for the post-2027 period.

Pirelli will run, starting next year, under the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) label. This will result in the use of natural rubber for its gums, while ensuring the preservation of plantations and forests, which are used for its production. All the while trying to positively impact the forestry activity for the people who work there and the local communities.
