The Formula 1 teams have now officially abandoned the project of a joint launch of the 2010 cars, although the idea will be revisited for 2011. As we mentioned last week, even though the teams agreed on this joint launch to reduce costs, the details of this launch were difficult to clarify.
There were fears that only certain teams would get proper media coverage. The event was supposed to take place in Valencia, Spain at the end of January. Additionally, there was also the risk that several of the new teams would not have their cars ready in time.
With so many uncertainties, it has therefore been decided not to organize this event. However, the concept will be reassessed by the Formula 1 Teams Association (FOTA) over the next year with a view to conducting a proper car launch before the 2011 season.
