Mercedes GP, formerly Brawn GP, has signed a long-term sponsorship contract with the Malaysian oil company Petronas. The company, which once sponsored the BMW-Sauber team and had been associated with the Malaysian Lotus team, will ultimately become the partner of the German manufacturer.

The team released an image of the car with Petronas logos, but it will be officially unveiled at the team launch and will take to the track for the first time on February 1, 2010, in Valencia, Spain.

« Everyone at Mercedes GP is happy to confirm a long-term agreement with Petronas, » said team director Ross Brawn. « Our plans for the new season are on track, as is the development of our 2010 cars. We look forward to seeing them run with Petronas as the sponsor in Valencia. »

The head of Mercedes Motorsport, Norbert Haug added: « Mercedes-Benz and Petronas will work together on the track but also off it. The headquarters of Petronas is based in Kuala Lumpur, a region where the automotive industry is booming, which makes this new partnership even more valuable. »
