The president of the Campos team, Jose Ramon Carabante, claims that the Spanish team is still in talks with Pedro de la Rosa for the second race seat. Although team boss Adrian Campos has stated that it would be almost impossible to sign de la Rosa due to the lack of Spanish sponsors, Carabante insisted that the Iberian driver is still on his list.

He admitted, however, that the signing of la Rosa will only happen if the necessary funds can be found to cover the budget without requiring the driver to act as guarantor himself: « Discussions with Pedro de la Rosa have not been broken off, » explained Carabante on the airwaves of Onda Cero. « It would be a dream if he were our driver next season. »

« As of today, there is a chance that the seat will be offered to a Spanish driver and, of course, for us, the dream would be to see Pedro de la Rosa there. Negotiations with him have never been broken off. »

He added: « We would take Pedro for free if necessary, without him having to do anything. With the budget, I can assure you that Adrian Campos’ first choice is to bring Pedro because he is a person we love. We would be delighted to have him on our team, but it depends a lot on his sponsors. As of today, Pedro is the only Spanish driver we are concerned with. »

Carabante conceded that the Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado and the Russian Vitaly Petrov are still the most serious candidates to become Bruno Senna’s partner with the team next year: « There are other options for drivers backed by countries, such as Pastor Maldonado, who represents a pool of 20,000 new businesses, or Vitaly Petrov. »

There is another solution, but our goal is to sign the second driver before the end of the year and we hope to achieve that.

The car is being built by Dallara for 2010, but Carabante stated that Campos’s goal is to build their own chassis from their Murcia base in the future. He also revealed that the team is in talks with Ferrari for a possible engine contract in 2011: « Our intention is to have Ferrari engines after one year with Cosworth. »
