Paul di Resta hopes that his rather promising tests last week in Jerez will help him secure a future with Force India, the team for which he drove during the ‘young drivers’ tests. The former ‘McLaren Autosport BRDC’ award winner set a superb time on the first day with the second fastest time, despite having had only half a day.

Wednesday morning, the track conditions were a bit more unfavorable, which slowed him down in his performance with only the fourth-best time: « The goal was to conduct tests for Force India, then see, » claims the British driver, who hadn’t driven an F1 car for a year since McLaren at Silverstone.

« I don’t have any concrete plans for next year, but I hope I can build a strong relationship with Force India as a result of this test. »

Although Force India has signed Adrian Sutil and Vitantonio Liuzzi as main drivers for 2010, the position of test and reserve driver is still available. Di Resta and JR Hildebrand, who took part in the Jerez tests, are the main contenders. Di Resta finished in second place in the DTM championship in 2008 and also won a race this year with Mercedes.

He stated that he wants to stay in the German series, but he will also need to take the time to evaluate his options in F1: « There’s definitely great potential in DTM, but after this test, I need to sit down and see what I want to do and what I can do, » he added.
