Toyota rejected the idea of selling the team and does not seem willing to follow the examples of BMW and Honda.
When Honda withdrew from Formula 1, the Japanese car manufacturer agreed to hand over the reins of its team to its directors, Ross Brawn and Nick Fry, for a symbolic sum. As for BMW, the team found buyers shortly after announcing its withdrawal. BMW was sold to the Qadbak investment consortium.
Nevertheless, the president of Toyota F1, John Howett, stated that these options have already been discussed and rejected by Toyota Motor Corporation. Perhaps these ideas will be reconsidered, but for now, it seems not, he declared to the Times.
Additionally, a member of the Toyota team based in Cologne, Germany, told the magazine Auto Motor und Sport that they have heard rumors claiming that only 150 employees will be retained in Cologne for Toyota’s next project.
Approximately 700 employees are currently working on the engine and chassis programs for the Formula One team in Junkersdorf, west of Cologne.
A project for a race in the Le Mans Series seems the most likely at the moment.
