With a twelfth place in qualifying, Pierre Gasly could hope to score points on the Marina Bay circuit. Quickly in the top 10 after a cautious start, the Frenchman skillfully managed to outperform his closest rivals and climb up the rankings.

Author of daring but always clean overtaking maneuvers, the Alpine driver fought hard to gain positions and reach sixth place in the final standings. Engaged in a battle with the Haas cars at the start of the race, Gasly showed patience before launching his attacks. Whether it was against Kevin Magnussen or later against Sergio Pérez in the Red Bull, the Normandy-born driver managed to find nice opportunities to gain positions.

This individual performance on the track goes hand in hand with the collective one, this time, achieved by the entire Alpine team. With a strategy executed to perfection, especially during the safety car intervention at the beginning of the race, the only French team in F1 once again showed that they are comfortable on tight city circuits where driving skills and strategy make more of a difference than aerodynamics and engine power. As a reminder, Esteban Ocon had shone in Monaco, a circuit with similar characteristics to Singapore, by finishing on the third step of the podium.

With this good result, his best of the season after the podium in Zandvoort, Pierre Gasly takes advantage of it to come back within two points of Lance Stroll’s 9th position in the championship.
