Fred Vasseur put pressure on Leclerc before qualifying
The boss of Ferrari gave an update on the situation of Ferrari before the qualifiers. « We will not do the grid with FP2 or FP3. It will be done during the qualifying session, and it’s this afternoon that we have to put everything in place. Not before. », Vasseur reminds us on Sky Sport. « So far, it’s been good, the pace has been decent. Even on yesterday’s long run, we did pretty well. It’s so close, and it will be the same this afternoon. We don’t need to be relaxed, we need to be focused and give our best ».
The former boss of Alfa Romeo takes advantage of this opportunity to send a message to his driver Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque has been a bit behind since the beginning of the weekend and is struggling to match Carlos Sainz’s lap times.
« For Charles today, Carlos is the benchmark. We would like Charles to be in the rhythm this afternoon. He was good today, the pace was there. We struggled more in Zandvoort. This was already the case in Budapest and we are in better shape in Canada, Austria and Spa. We fare a bit better on low-downforce tracks and this one is a good one.
Ferrari hasn’t won at Monza since 2019, when Charles Leclerc secured his second Formula 1 victory, much to the delight of the tifosi.
