Paul Ricard Testing – Day 2 – Räikkönen Takes the Lead

Kimi Räikkönen finishes on top at the end of the second day of testing at the Paul Ricard circuit in France. The teams thus complete their preparations for the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Ferrari driver erased the results from the day before set by Lewis Hamilton with a time of 1’05”381. The Finnish driver had less than a tenth of a second advantage over Heikki Kovalainen’s McLaren, who ultimately finished second.

Robert Kubica wants to show that his team is still competing alongside McLaren and Ferrari after a disappointing Turkish Grand Prix. He achieved the third fastest time, just over four-tenths behind Kovalainen.

David Coulthard once again showed that Red Bull Racing and their RB4 were making remarkable progress. He finished fourth ahead of Jenson Button in his RA108 and Sébastien Bourdais in the new STR3.

The Scuderia Toro Rosso is fully committed to developing the STR3 as much as possible and was able to successfully carry out a long run in the afternoon in preparation for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Jarno Trulli is seventh ahead of Nelson Piquet and Kazuki Nakajima. The two Force India drivers, Adrian Sutil and Giancarlo Fisichella, were present today. They are last, with the German ahead of the Italian.

The day was one of those rare test sessions marked by no red flags.

Testing will continue tomorrow, but the cars will be configured differently as the parameters will be those used during the Canadian Grand Prix.
