Praised for its top speed this year, the Williams car is expected to perform well at Monza. Alexander Albon is expected to secure a good position, but the Thai driver remains grounded.

With 15 points scored – all by Alexander Albon – Williams’ season is already much better than the previous one. Finishing last in 2022, the men from the English team could very well reach 7th place in the constructors’ championship, following in the wake of the Thai driver who once again demonstrates all his qualities this year.

Coming out of a weekend where he scored valuable points in Zandvoort, even though the FW45 was not expected to perform well on the Dutch circuit and strategic choices didn’t help much, many see Alex Albon as a serious contender for a great result at Monza. This is notably the case for Fernando Alonso. “They will be fast,” he certified, referring to the Williams team. “These two teams [Ferrari and Williams] will be our biggest competition, and both of them could fight for the podium.”

« Spa has been a reality check, let’s not talk about it too much »

It must be said that Albon and Sargeant’s single-seaters are shining this season in terms of top speed, but that doesn’t mean we should get carried away, according to the Thai driver. « I think Spa was a bit of a reality check for us. We weren’t as fast as we thought on a fairly similar circuit to this one. So let’s not talk too much before the first free practice sessions, and we will realize where the car is and what our pace is. »

The former Red Bull driver will certainly be expected to score points on Sunday, maybe even quite high. Let’s remember that last year, Nyck de Vries, filling in for Albon who was ill, managed to bring the FW44 into the points in his first GP. This year, Williams has a more competitive car on all circuits, explains the London-born driver.

So, can Alexander Albon hope for better than his 6th place obtained in 2019 at the temple of speed?
