The F2 car, 2024 version, unveiled at Monza
This Thursday, the FIA unveiled the car that will be used by F2 drivers from next season until 2026. Changes have been made to the wings, the nose, and the floor to provide more spectacle on the track.

It is in front of a crowd of journalists and the drivers that Stefano Domenicali and Bruno Michel, the CEO of F2, unveiled the car that will race in 2024. This new F2 will remain until 2026 and presents notable differences compared to the one from 2023.
The nose, front and rear wings, and the floor have been modified to provide more spectacle on track by allowing more wheel-to-wheel battles. The FIA wanted to design a car that is closer to current F1 cars while remaining at a reasonable cost. These new F2 cars will be powered by a turbocharged 3.4-liter Mecachrome engine and are designed to adapt to synthetic fuel, which will be introduced in 2025.

Tests scheduled with Felipe Drugovich
The prototype has already hit the track with former F2 driver Tatiana Calderon, who piloted during a shakedown in Varano. Other tests are planned in the coming weeks, including the participation of reigning champion Felipe Drugovich. The Brazilian was present with his former rivals at the unveiling of the car in the Monza paddock. He will take to the track on Friday with Aston Martin, for whom he is the reserve driver, replacing Lance Stroll in Free Practice 1.
Once the car is ready, the teams will be able to take it over before the end of the year, before having the final version in January in preparation for pre-season testing.
« The F2 consistently offers excellent races and serves as an important training ground for future members of the Formula 1 grid. By aligning the design philosophies of the two cars, we will support this development further,” praised Stefano Domenicali, the head of F1.
A “powerful and exhilarating” car
“In collaboration with the FIA, we have designed a powerful, stimulating and safe car that will prepare young drivers for Formula 1, and will continue to offer exciting races and numerous overtaking opportunities, which fans expect from Formula 2,” states Bruno Michel, CEO of Formula 2.
« It was also designed to cater to all types of drivers, taking into account the FIA’s considerations regarding steering effort. This is obviously key to making our sport more inclusive, by improving the maneuverability and comfort of our car. »
While waiting to be able to test this new car, the F2 drivers have a season to finish. There are only two events left in Monza (this weekend) and Abu Dhabi (November 24-26) to decide who will succeed Felipe Drugovich in the record books. Théo Pourchaire arrives in Italy as the championship leader but will have to resist the challenge of Frederik Vesti (Prema), who is only 12 points behind the ART GP driver.
