Last year, the DTM faced a lot of criticism. There was first the chaotic race at the Lausitzring circuit. Then, later in the same season, there was the highly controversial Barcelona race, where none of the Audis participated in the event. Despite these criticisms, Hans Werner Aufrecht believes that the DTM has no worries about its future.

« Since 2000, many people have said that the DTM does not have enough manufacturers to be able to survive. But as a result, we have now been present in the motorsport landscape for eight years, despite all the criticism, » said Aufrecht.

« If a large number of manufacturers means that a series is doing well, then the STW with eight manufacturers should be the most successful series in motorsport! But of course, I acknowledge that it would be good to have more manufacturers in DTM. »

« Obviously, we are thinking about ways to improve the sport, » explained Aufrecht.

« But we must see how we can improve it on the circuits. Part of that improvement will come through regulations, so that we can make this series more user-friendly. »

A night race that F1 will experience for the first time in 2008 is also an interesting thing for the DTM. In 2003, we already opted for this kind of event.

« However, for a race to become nocturnal, it is not easy. Very good equipment is needed to illuminate the track, television must be present to broadcast the event, and of course the noise of the cars at night is also a problem, » he continued.

Aufrecht would also like to have another urban race: « It would be nice to have another race that would take place in the city alongside that of Norisring. »
