Christian Klien remains determined to return to the top of F1, meaning to be a race driver again. This year, for the second consecutive season, he will only be a test driver.
The Austrian who raced in F1 in 2006 with the Red Bull team, later became a test driver last year at Honda and thus joined the BMW Sauber team as a reserve driver for 2008.
He states, however, that his goal is still to recapture the sensations of Sunday racing during Grand Prix weekends.
« I am still just as determined to be back in F1 as a race driver, » Klien declared.
« To achieve this goal, my past as a test driver at Honda can only strengthen my CV, and the experience I will gain at BMW-Sauber will also be a very good thing for me. »
« I will therefore take this opportunity to work on the team’s program, » he added.
My goal is to give as much support as possible to the team inside and outside the car. Testing is quite limited these days, but this means each session will be critical for the chassis, and I will fully use my experience in this regard.
Klien insisted on the team’s number one goal in 2008, which will be to achieve its first victory, but he believes that the task will not be easy…
« The team was the third force in 2007 and finished second in the Constructors’ World Championship. Heidfeld and Kubica, for their part, secured fifth and sixth places in the drivers’ championship, so I think the team has already shown its capabilities as a challenger. »
The next step will be difficult, we want to win our first race in 2008.
« The competition between the top four teams will be more intense this year. When BMW needs my services, I will be ready for what promises to be an exciting year for all F1 fans around the world… » Concluded the former Honda test driver.
