Giancarlo Fisichella says he is pessimistic about the chances of his former team, Renault, winning the 2008 Constructors’ Championship, even if Fernando Alonso has returned.

The Italian left the French team to join Force India. He knows Alonso well, having been his teammate in 2005 and 2006, but he thinks that his speed won’t be enough for Renault to be winners again this season.

« It was a difficult and frustrating season, » said Fisichella, in an interview this week for Autosport magazine.

At the beginning of the year, I was convinced that we would be able to fight for the championship, but the car wasn’t as fast as it was in 2005 and 2006.

« Even Fernando’s return will not be enough, because he needs a good car, and I don’t know if Renault is ready to win again at the moment. I am a bit pessimistic about their chances, » confessed the Roman.

Fisichella also has little chance of victories this season. His main challenge will undoubtedly be to avoid the back of the grid as much as possible. But he is categorical, he made the right choice by signing with them.

« I still love Formula 1. I love driving and I love this sport for another reason… I want to stay in F1 because the Force India project is looking like a very promising program. I want to be part of it from the start, and I want to grow with this team, » explained Giancarlo Fisichella.
