BMW-Sauber is apparently not where it should be with its new F1.08. Therefore, there is an obligation to work hard to overcome the balance problems that affected the team at the start of these tests.

Such is the verdict of Nick Heidfeld, who is convinced that the team can sort things out before the Australian Grand Prix. He also admits that his new car has not yet delivered what he had hoped for.

« Last year at this stage things seemed to be going much better for me. Last year, the balance was much better, » said Heidfeld during the Valencia tests in Spain.

« But I can’t say yet if this car is less efficient than the old one. I think we know the areas we need to work on. We are confident that by Melbourne, we will be able to be where we planned to be. »

« There are still certain parts of the aerodynamics that are not yet perfected on the car. But even without them, we expected to have a car with better balance, » he added.

Heidfeld claims that the main problem is that the car management is incompatible over one lap.

« I don’t want to go too much into detail, but I would say that the balance of the car is too important. This means that it is not only a matter of understeer and oversteer but also of the track where we are. »

« We made some modifications, did an aerodynamic adjustment accordingly, but it’s still not ideal, » concluded the German.

BMW-Sauber has set its sights on its first race victory after finishing second in the Constructors’ Championship last year.
