After the tests, time for discussions for Ralf Schumacher…

Ralf Schumacher will very soon be in talks with Mercedes boss Norbert Haug. What’s at stake? A racing driver position in the DTM championship this season.

The former F1 driver completed a two-day test at the Estoril circuit last week and even though he is still far from getting the position, he stated that he had plans to at least discuss with Haug.

He stated on the official DTM website: « It was a good experience where I was able to feel a lot of pleasure, but the next step remains completely open. We will discuss it. »

Haug remains open to this possibility but warned Ralf that it will take some time for him to adapt to the new discipline: « The DTM is totally new for him. If we decide to cooperate, he must envision at least two years of learning, no more and no less than for other drivers. »

« Arriving and immediately conquering the title in DTM is impossible. But his tests were positive, and he is still a very good driver. »

DTM champion Bernd Schneider believes that Ralf Schumacher would be competitive in DTM: « Ralf’s recent performances in Formula 1 do not reflect his true abilities. »

Former DTM driver Michael Bartels added: « He would take a lot of pleasure in DTM, but it’s as tough as F1. He will really have to work harder than others to have a chance at success. »
