The former DTM champion Gary Paffett sees his chances of securing a place in a brand new Mercedes C-Class for 2008 diminishing week by week. The reason being, the increased number of Formula 1 tests he will have to conduct for McLaren could harm his DTM racing career.
« We are currently trying to finalize things, » said the 2005 champion.
« My work with McLaren is becoming increasingly important, which is fantastic for me, but it means I have a bit less time to dedicate to the DTM. »
Paul di Resta is now reportedly preferred over the Briton for the spot left vacant by Mika Hakkinen, who has retired.
In 2006, the Formula Three champion had tested for the HWA AG team.
The British driver Oliver Jarvis, winner of the Macau F3 Grand Prix, and the Champ Car driver Katherine Legge are also in the running for a spot in the DTM championship after testing an Audi in Almeria, Spain last month.
Jarvis, who is currently considering his options in GP2, Champ Car, Japanese Formula, and DTM, said to Autosport magazine: « I loved driving the car and DTM is a discipline that greatly interests me, but I’m still keeping an eye on my other options. »
