Red Bull Racing owner Dietrich Mateschitz says he is ready to wait another year to see his team secure its first F1 victory. He also states that he would be very happy to see several podiums in this 2008 season.
Red Bull Racing has just launched its new RB4 in Jerez, Spain, and the team is hopeful of making a big leap forward during the upcoming season.
But despite a climate of optimism advanced by the team, Mateschitz insists that his victory ambitions are only valid starting in 2009. For this year, he sees his team competing alongside BMW Sauber, Renault, and Williams.
« With all the common sense one can give, I feel an excellent 2008 season, » declared Mateschitz, who was present in Jerez for the launch of the new single-seater.
« The RB3, which was completely new, needed a year to reach its true potential. From the Japanese Grand Prix in 2007, it noticeably improved. »
« The team really worked hard, focusing directly on the initial problems. We built the RB4 on this basis. For 2008, I expect to be on par with BMW, Renault, Williams. »
When asked if he expected a victory this year, he added: « I doubt that can happen in a race where the circumstances are normal. However, I am betting on victories in 2009. This season, both drivers should each achieve two or three podiums. »
Although Red Bull Racing is now entering its fourth season in F1, Mateschitz claims that the pursuit of success in racing is not a source of impatience for him.
« I do not believe my patience will be tested this year. In fact, I never expected F1 to be easy. »
