This recognition delighted FIA President Max Mosley, who acknowledges that F1 must become greener.
In a statement released this Wednesday, he declared: « It is extremely satisfying to see that the European Parliament recognizes the leading role that motorsport can play in promoting green technologies. It therefore supports the work undertaken by the FIA towards a more sustainable policy for the future of the automobile. »
« With the support of the automotive manufacturers present in F1 and thanks to the expertise of the engineers, we hope that new technical regulations will further encourage the emergence of economical and environmentally friendly technologies. »
The CARS 21 report stated that the EU would like to see the FIA intensify promotion in the search for sustainable technologies. It also acknowledged that F1 could be used as an example to raise public awareness of the need for green technologies.
The EU report said: « The European Parliament recognizes the prominent role played by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) in the pursuit of innovative environmental technologies. They lead to a reduction in CO2 emissions. »
