Heidfeld and Kubica hope to fight for their 1st victory!

Nick Heidfeld expresses great enthusiasm for the new BMW Sauber F1.08 after the car was unveiled on Monday in Germany.

The German driver, who is about to start his third season with the team, explains that it is the most beautiful new car he has ever seen.

« I am very, very happy because I know that the technicians and engineers have done their utmost to ensure that this car represents progress, » said Heidfeld during the launch of the car.

« This is the most beautiful car I have ever seen. I know it doesn’t mean anything for speed, but I’m looking forward to the coming weeks. »

Heidfeld finished in fifth position in last year’s driver championship, and in 2008, he insists that the team’s goal must be to win a race. However, the German remains cautious about his chances.

« I can only speak for myself, I am sure I can win races, it all depends on the car and in theory, we should be able to bridge the gap between the Ferrari-McLaren duo and us. The goal is to win a race, » he said.

The German also admitted that he is eager to drive the car without traction control.

« For me, as a driver, everything will be more exciting, more fun to drive. You’ll see, finally, more mistakes which should create more excitement, » concluded Heidfeld.

As for Robert Kubica, he hopes that the BMW Sauber team has made a big enough step forward to allow him to win the first race in the German team’s history.

« Nick has made significant progress compared to the years 2006 and 2007, and I believe that everyone who worked on this car gave their all, » said Kubica, who will once again be Nick Heidfeld’s partner in 2008.

« We have the right people in the right place to show the fans that maybe we can win a race this season. »

This new single-seater should increase our chances, Nick’s and mine, of winning a race.

The Pole who finished sixth in the championship last year added: I think the whole season will be a big challenge. Every race will be a big challenge.

We must maximize our performance and score as many points as possible. We hope to score much more points than last season.
