Giancarlo Fisichella claims he did not consider any other options outside of F1 before securing a contract with Force India.

The Roman driver was one of the many candidates aiming to secure the second racing seat at Force India alongside the German Adrian Sutil.

Fisichella, who was thanked by Renault at the end of 2007 after three years of good and loyal service, was focused only on the opportunity with Force India.

« It’s not for the money that I continue in F1. Here I earn less than at Renault, but I’ve always wanted to be an F1 driver, so I never even considered the possibility of changing championships or retiring, » said the Italian in the columns of Gazzetta dello Sport.

« Yes, I received a lot of money mainly because of the many years spent together. The winning car, they promised it, but it never arrived. »

« During the tests in Barcelona and Jerez, there were six or seven candidates for this position. I went as fast as possible, and they chose me. I signed for two years, » he added.

Fisichella also said he hoped to have the status of number 1 within his new team.

« I am the reference point, the number 1 driver, thanks to my long experience. Sutil comes after, at least at that level. »
