Pedro de la Rosa had the honor of testing the new McLaren MP4-23 for private testing at the Jerez circuit in Spain.

The Spaniard left the pits shortly after 9 a.m. to complete the installation of the first lap. The testing will last a total of three days.

The car still had the front wing used in some races last season.

The driver Heikki Kovalainen is expected later in the day to be the second to take the wheel of a new McLaren, the second available in Jerez.

As for Hamilton, he should take over from Pedro de la Rosa on Thursday and conclude his three days of private testing on Friday.

The Woking team is expected to return to work in Jerez next week, from Monday, January 14 to Wednesday, January 16, alongside a number of its rivals.

McLaren will then head to Valencia the following week, before heading to Barcelona at the beginning of February. Finally, the British team will return to Jerez for the two test events scheduled between February 12 and 14 and between February 25 and 27.

The MP4-23 was officially unveiled two days ago at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart.
