Michael Schumacher said he expects the F2008, which has just been unveiled, to be fully competitive this year. Aged 38, he retired from his racing career at the end of 2006 and will continue to serve as an advisor for Ferrari for another year.

The retired German and seven-time world champion was seen among those present at the Fiorano circuit on Monday when reigning world champion Kimi Räikkönen completed the first 55 laps with the F2008.

The Finn set the best time during this session with 1’00″897 in wet conditions, but Schumacher noted that the car seemed fast.

« The first laps of a new Ferrari always represent a special moment, » he said.

« My first impression of the F2008 is very good. The car looks beautiful and fast at first glance. »

« Let’s see now if these first impressions will be confirmed, » added Schumacher.
