The FIA World Council having met yesterday and today in Monaco, several pieces of information were unveiled. In the WRC, for the 2009 and 2010 championships, the FIA has officially announced an alternating system for certain rallies.

Thus, in 2009, the Monte Carlo Rally – Monaco – will be absent from the 2009 championship as the schedule will rotate every two years.

This will allow all candidates for hosting a rally to receive a positive response. In 2009, the season will start in Ireland, while the historic Monte Carlo Rally will not be on the calendar for the first time since 1996.

The event had been absent from the World Rally Championship only twice, in 1974 and 1996, since 1949 but will return to its traditional location in 2010.

There will only be 12 events in 2009 and 2010, compared to this year where 16 events were planned.
