Max Verstappen is currently the best driver in the championship. The Dutch driver is leading the standings with 314 points. He has a 125-point advantage over Sergio Perez, who is second in the driver’s standings.

The double world champion has won 10 out of 12 races this season. The driver has not left the top step of the podium since Azerbaijan (Sergio Perez had won the race), and for eight races now, first place has always gone to Max Verstappen.

On the way to Vettel’s record

The driver could, after the break, equal the record for consecutive wins held by Sebastian Vettel, who won nine races in a row between the Belgian Grand Prix and the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2013.

Despite a strong dominance, the Red Bull driver always wants to win more and always has a goal of doing better.

« It’s not so much about getting to know oneself, but always wanting more. And I try to examine every situation where we could have done better. That’s how I was raised, always wanting to do more. Every time people say it’s great or incredible, there are always things that can be improved. I know this because I’ve been on the other side, when you try to achieve victories and you don’t show up because you don’t have the necessary equipment or anything else,” explained the world championship leader to Sky sport F1.

« Winning keeps the fire burning »

The 25-year-old driver is aware that his dominance will soon come to an end. « I definitely make the most of the moment, but at the same time, I know that at some point, it will stop, so we have to take advantage of it, continue learning, continue trying to improve, and try to implement it again for the next race », declared the double world champion.

The victory is the only reason for Max Verstappen to continue racing. The Red Bull driver always wants to fight for first place. « Winning keeps the fire alive. If I have to get up and I have no chance of winning, the fire starts to fade. This year looks great, but next year will be a completely different year. »

Max Verstappen is in a good position to win the World Championship for a third time in his career. The driver would join Ayrton Senna, Nelson Piquet, and Niki Lauda in the number of world titles won.
