The president of Formula 1 was questioned in an interview with the F1site official about Ferrari’s role in F1. Specifically, whether the team is more important than other teams for the sport.
« Yes, » he replied.
« First of all, because it holds an important place historically, as the team has been present in Formula 1 since 1950. The second point has something to do with the existential orientation of the team. »
« Imagine if there were only one British team and all the other teams were Italian, with the holder of commercial rights being Italian, as it has been with the FIA president, the race director and his deputy, and the sporting commissioner. »
« Wouldn’t it be normal for this British team to be very cautious? »
It took a long time to estimate that there was one rule for Ferrari in F1 and another for everyone else, as former world champion Damon Hill said last week. With the penalties imposed on McLaren this year, Mosley and all the decision-makers insisted on the entirely neutral position they had in this matter and emphasized the importance of protecting the vulnerability of Ferrari.
« I use my neutrality from a very high number of responsibilities to stay in close contact with Ferrari to assure them that no Briton belongs to the mafia, who could try to take advantage of it, » he emphasized.
« But if we judge it necessary to enforce our technical or sporting regulations, Ferrari is treated like any other team. If we find irregularities on a Ferrari, then of course it will be removed and banned, » concluded Mosley.
In the same interview, Mosley also acknowledged that he has a very different relationship with McLaren boss Ron Dennis than the one he shares with Ferrari president Luca de Montezemolo.
