The Formula 1 financial chief, Bernie Ecclestone, announced the extension of the Brazilian Grand Prix contract until 2014.
There were a few conditions to this contract extension. The mayor of Sao Paulo – Gilberto Kassab and the Brazilian Minister of Sports – Orlando Silva – promised the creation of a new grandstand to accommodate more spectators for a Grand Prix that has become very popular in South America. This grandstand of approximately 10,000 seats should also be built in parallel with the renovation of the pit garages.
« We have always had excellent relations with Brazil and we have had two great Brazilian drivers – Jose Carlos Pace and Nelson Piquet. I am happy to have concluded this agreement with the city hall. » Stated Ecclestone on Sunday.
The new contract for the transaction is expected to be officially signed in the coming weeks and will therefore cover the next 7 years. By then, the F1 calendar should contain around 20 races…
