BMW scored more than 100 points in the championship in only its second F1 season. A remarkable achievement, especially since the team never left the top ten.

In Brazil, Kubica and Heidfeld once again shone and solidified BMW’s position as the third force in the championship. Certainly second in the standings following McLaren’s disqualification, but third in terms of actual power. Therefore, an exceptional performance that heralds an even better 2008 season.

Robert Kubica – 5th

The race started off quite well, especially after my issue in qualifying. I had to push from the beginning due to my planned three stops. Everything was going very well until I was asked to reduce the engine speed because of the high temperatures. I was then behind Rosberg and losing a lot of ground to him each lap. In the last 10 laps, the tires were bad, and I was struggling with the car. But in the end, it was a very good season!

Nick Heidfeld – 6th

« We scored about a hundred points. It’s truly a very good season. The tires were very unstable with a lot of graining. As a result, I made quite a few mistakes, but it was the same for everyone on track. In my last stint, I was 4th, and then Rosberg overtook me. If I hadn’t opened the door, we would have collided. It was a complicated maneuver, but in the end, Kubica overtook both of us. »

« I found it truly incredible that Räikkönen became world champion! »

Mario Theissen – BMW Motorsport Director

« First of all, congratulations to Kimi Räikkönen for winning the world championship title in a real suspense today.

« For us, it was a very good end to the season. Finishing in 5th and 6th places allows us to have more than 100 points in the championship, nearly three times more than last year. So, thank you to everyone and especially to the factories in Munich and Hinwil for their work, which will give us a very good foundation for next year. »

Willy Rampf – Technical Director

« For our second season in F1, we have already scored more than 100 points, which is truly exceptional. »

« In the race, we had two different strategies. Robert with 3 stops and Nick with 2. It paid off. So I really want to congratulate the team for their great work from the start and especially to congratulate Räikkönen for winning a turbulent GP! »
