Race – Incredible Kimi Räikkönen! (2)

… Outside of the protagonists, the actions are everywhere. Kubica overtakes Rosberg, who re-overtakes him a few laps later.

Vettel, Sutil and Barrichello will retire after their second pit stop. The Brazilian’s engine, on his Honda, broke down and a thick white smoke is covering the pit straight, but without causing visibility problems. The race continues and Räikkönen seems closer and closer to his first title, while Hamilton and Alonso are drifting further away.

With 2 laps to go, the race seems wrapped up and Räikkönen wins an incredible race. The Finn, who was the least likely to win the title a few hours ago, gives a great lesson in hope. He crosses the checkered flag at the front of the race, leaving Hamilton and Alonso alone with nothing but their tears.

Alonso secures an insufficient podium. He falls short by one point to Räikkönen, just like his teammate. 110 points for Räikkönen, 109 for Hamilton and Alonso.

Rosberg secures a very nice 4th position, ahead of Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld. Hamilton in 7th place is ahead of Jarno Trulli and Coulthard. Nakajima, who replaces Wurz at Williams, enters the top 10 for his first Grand Prix in Formula 1. Encouraging for the Japanese driver.

There are only 14 cars left at the finish of the GP. The intense heat of the track made the single-seaters more vulnerable, and the Super Aguri team took advantage to secure the 12th and 14th positions. Liuzzi interposes between them in 13th place.

In the team standings, no changes are to report, but McLaren will not carry the number one next season.
