The small Scuderia may have some regrets as the qualification was far from the performances achieved by the two drivers during the morning practice. Indeed, after finishing 9th and 11th in practice with Vettel ahead of Liuzzi, the drivers struggled with a lack of balance in their single-seaters on a track that reached 60 degrees Celsius.
Tomorrow on the starting grid, the German driver will be in 13th, and the Italian will start just behind in the 14th position.
Sebastian Vettel – 9th and 13th
« A few races ago, if someone had told me I’d be 13th on the grid in Brazil, I would have been very happy, and it shows we’re making progress. It was quite difficult in the first qualifying session, and the car wasn’t working as well as it did in the morning. But we played a bit with the tire pressure and improvements came towards the end. I think the track was slow in the first part of qualifying. »
« With two fairly soft tire specifications, tomorrow’s race could be interesting. Now, we need to work on our strategy for tomorrow afternoon. Of course, some dark clouds and rain would suit us better for tomorrow. Let’s wait to see what happens on the track for what is always a particularly challenging race. »
Vitantonio Liuzzi – 11th and 14th
« I am not very satisfied with this result because the morning session was quite good. I thought we could do better this afternoon. Q1 was achievable, but in Q2, I suffered from a lot of understeer, especially in sectors 2 and 3. »
The condition of the track has changed a lot since the morning when the car was really well balanced, so I expected to be more competitive in qualifying. My strategy for tomorrow? I think I should do everything that Sebastian does because it seemed to work well for him in the last two races!
Giorgio Ascanelli – Director
I was optimistic before the qualifying session and my forecast turned out to be accurate. So, by doing roughly what we expected, we can be satisfied with the qualifying today.
