Williams showed very good performances yesterday, but today the Anglo-Saxon team performed less well.
Rosberg managed to just place himself in the top 10 while Nakajima, who was participating in his first Formula 1 qualifying, couldn’t take part in Q2. Mix that with an unstable car on the track, despite a renewed tarmac, and you get a gloomy assessment according to the team.
Nico Rosberg – 10th and 10th
« My engineers did a good job improving the car throughout the weekend, especially since this morning’s session, but I think we still have a lot of luck to get into Q3 this afternoon. I was stuck to my Q2 time and couldn’t improve for Q3 when I had a bit more fuel. So I had to do a good lap to try to pass Coulthard, but I made a small mistake that must have cost me one or two tenths. Enough to overtake Coulthard. »
« I think we should be happy with what we were able to do. And for tomorrow, we will probably be better because we are more stable on long stints. »
Kazuki Nakajima – 19th and 19th
« Today was particularly difficult. Without knowing why, the car was more unstable than yesterday. Combined with some small mistakes on my part, the qualifiers were disappointing. »
« I must now compare my data with those of Nico [Rosberg] and then see where I can improve for tomorrow’s race. »
Sam Michael – Technical Director
« Today, the result is not exactly what we had hoped for. In Nakajima’s first qualifications, he did not manage to get past Q1… but for Rosberg, we thought we had better chances, but the car was too unstable to do better. Tomorrow, the race will be interesting, and we will push as hard as possible. »
