It was a very frustrating day for the Spyker team in Sao Paulo, Brazil. After a very hot day both in the air and on the track, Adrian Sutil and Sakon Yamamoto qualified for tomorrow’s race by securing the 21st and 22nd places respectively.
Adrian had made a promising time in the morning, just six-tenths of a second off the 12th place, but a fuel pressure problem cost him a lot of time. Unfortunately, this problem reappeared in the early minutes of the German’s qualifying session.
Sakon had similarly been productive in the morning, finishing just two-tenths behind Adrian, but struggled in qualifying with a car that had little grip.
Adrian Sutil – 21st and 21st
« Unfortunately, we had a fuel pressure issue on my first qualifying run, I couldn’t continue. It was the same problem we had in the morning, but then I stopped in the pit lane and my mechanics were able to get me back to the garage. »
« In the afternoon, I was on track to do better and the problem repeated itself. Obviously, it’s an issue and we need to make some adjustments for the race, but I think we can make the right decisions tomorrow. »
Sakon Yamamoto – 22nd and 22nd
Obviously, this qualification was disappointing. The grip was lower than expected, and I changed the set-up for the qualification and the race, but the setup doesn’t seem right.
« On this point, it’s frustrating, but I think it will be in place by tomorrow. So, I’ll need to work tonight if I want to push at 100% and do my best in the race. »
Mike Gascoyne – Technical Director
« Disappointing qualifications. Adrian stopped during his first qualifying run with a fuel pressure issue. This is unfortunate because I think about the track improvement that would have allowed us to perform well in a few places. »
« Sakon struggled because he had less grip than this morning, but I’m sure that in the race, we can be competitive with the other drivers ahead of us. We must therefore look to optimize our chances for tomorrow. »
