The RuSport team, present in ChampCar, has officially announced its withdrawal from the discipline at the end of the 2007 season. This departure will leave Justin Wilson, the team’s main driver, without any position for 2008.

The English driver had indeed announced that he would participate in the 2008 championship with RuSport, as he had for the past three years. No team had made him a serious offer, and the unexpected and rushed departure of the team will not allow him to compete with a good team next year. He even believes that his future will be decided in the next two weeks.

« They have just announced their departure », commented a stunned Wilson.

« They [the leaders] called me in with the team and announced their withdrawal for 2008. I will have to find new options for next year. »

The spots in the big teams are taken, but Bourdais is leaving and hasn’t been officially replaced yet. So, there are still a few good spots available, and the Englishman remains optimistic.

« The fact that the team is withdrawing is disappointing, but it happens frequently in motorsports », he admitted. « You just have to choose for yourself and try to get another good position. »

« I received many offers at the beginning of the season asking if I was free in 2008. At that time, I wasn’t, but maybe now, those teams will contact me again. »

Wilson is currently second behind Bourdais in the championship. And with two races still to go, the Englishman hopes to maintain his position in the championship.
