Julio Jauregui – the deputy sporting director of A1 Team Mexico has officially announced the main driver for the team for the remainder of the 2007/2008 season. It will be Michel Jourdain Jr., who after scoring good points this weekend has convinced his managers.

He finished 13th in race number 2 in Brno last weekend, admittedly, but after losing many positions following a collision early in the race. He impressed his team all the more since he hadn’t driven a single-seater since 2004 in Champcar. In fact, he has been driving for BMW in the WTCC for 2 years.

« I can summarize what we think of him in one sentence: Respect and admiration towards Michel… » Commented Jauregui.

« It was brave to drive when he had no knowledge of this single-seater three days before…

« Michel took the 5th fastest time. Imagine what he could have done if he had more time to adapt. I am amazed. »

« We want to give him the opportunity to drive for us as the main driver. We don’t know his decision yet, but we will certainly discuss it when we return home to Mexico, because we really want to see him continue with us. » He concluded.

Jourdain has certainly not given an answer at the present time, but the Mexican only has one more WTCC appointment in a month and will then have all the time to devote himself to the A1GP. It is therefore highly likely that he will continue on this path, especially since he is optimistic about his chances of winning.

« I improved throughout the weekend and even if the result is not what we hoped for, we are happy with our performances because we were constantly progressing. »

« We certainly would have liked to gather more points, but we knew it would be a difficult goal to achieve for this first race. » Concluded Jourdain.

Mexico is currently 8th in the championship with 17 points in two races. It is therefore likely that Salvador Duran will be forced to give up his seat to his compatriot in order to secure better positions in the championship.
