Over the past two years, the BMW Sauber F1 Team has been perfectly consistent in its development and has achieved significant progress. However, BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen still sees room for further improvements.
During this 2007 season, which concludes in a few days with the Brazilian Grand Prix, the team managed to establish itself as the third force on the F1 grid behind Ferrari and McLaren.
« I wouldn’t say that there is a specific area where we are particularly behind. That was the case last year when we had a car that was really fast on high-speed tracks, but very underperforming on sites like Monaco, » said the German.
From his point of view, the team was in the best possible position with its 2007 car, the BMW Sauber F1.07.
« This year, the car is quite well balanced, but we are missing a little something to really make a difference with our direct competitors, » he explained.
What we must do now is try to move to the next stage during the winter with the primary goal of improving the car.
« It is a matter of evolution rather than revolution, with the ultimate goal of finding the three to five percent we lack to be on par with Ferrari or McLaren Mercedes, » concluded Theissen.
