The figure could make some envious, but in this context, it is more a source of astonishment… And for good reason, the British team Williams recorded a loss of 57 million dollars last year, according to a report published in the British newspaper Daily Telegraph.

The company, which thanks to its F1 team was the world constructors’ champion in the 90s, produced a better season in every aspect in 2007, both on the circuits and behind the scenes.

It was actually the loss of free BMW engines and the HP sponsorship at the end of 2005 that hurt Sir Frank Williams, according to the same newspaper.

In 2006, Williams finished eighth with a Cosworth engine, the supply cost of which was approximately 20 million dollars.

In comparison to this loss of $57 million, Williams made a profit of $60 million just one year earlier (2005). A difference of $117 million!

The Telegraph finally points out that Williams, the winner of 113 Grand Prix between 1979 and 2004, is now the only Formula 1 team currently not supported by an automobile manufacturer or a billionaire.
